Raise your hand if you have a picky eater?

When it comes to feeding our three children, we have always done a good job (in my humble opinion) to not “argue” about food. You know, the whole – “you better finish your dinner or you’re having it for breakfast” charade….

Growing up, I never really had any issues with food and I don’t have any trauma stories regarding eating leftovers for breakfast or taking my plate to the bathroom. And you know there are people out there who swear their parents did them dirty when it came to dinner time. Luckily for me, I didn’t have perfect parents … but I did have a mature palate and a mom who cooked every night. I never really had dinners that I absolute hated and cried about. And I don’t remember having to force down veggies I didn’t like. Now, my siblings on the other hand – ha…I’m sure they have a different version. You know how that goes. One sibling walked to school everyday, while the other was driven by both parents in a limo LOL – nothing ever lines up. Unless you’re the middle child, then it’s always true – mainly because we genuinely didn’t give a rats ass about anything.

Okay, so back to the picky eating – my kids complain about dinners, sure. But for the most part, I always try to make sure they are able to make a plate with what’s on the table. This means, I over cook and make extra sides so that everyone has something to choose from – the protein is the same for everyone. It works well for us and it keeps things a little more peaceful. As long as everyone eats their protein, I really don’t care what else they choose – hello, middle child energy.

Now, before you jump to conclusions and think I have it all together – I need you to know that I certainly do not. I have three children – two will eat mostly anything and everything…and the other will not. I know you’re at the edge of your seat wondering which one, I’ll give you a hint – I have two boys and one middle child girl. And when it comes to vegetables – she’s just not doing it.

No matter what I make, or how it’s prepared, she doesn’t want anything to do with them – and you know what, that’s fine. I know that she will one day come around and it’s just the season we are in at the moment. I’m ok with it.

There is one interesting factor here – Blakely won’t eat a veggie, but she will take a handful of spinach and throw it in her smoothie. She doesn’t care if its in the item she’s eating (for example, spinach ravioli – loves it) but she will not just eat a vegetable as a side. This is where her drinkable greens come in! We found a brand that we LOVE (well, she loves) and it has been a complete game changer.

Hiya now makes dissolvable, drinkable greens that taste like CHOCOLATE MILK. Now I know what you’re thinking…and trust me, I thought it too! There was no way in the world she was actually going to like how it tasted. This girl only drinks water – she literally hates juice. My expectations were very low to say the least, but I can happily say that she approves and she is a fan.

Now, I will tell you that they have a vanilla option, as well – She wasn’t a fan of that one. If you were going to try one of the two, I would definitely recommend going for the chocolate first! All you do is add one scoop to milk (or any milk alternative) and it’s done!
